Tempeh Chili Crisp over Fried Rice

Tempeh Chili Crisp over Fried rice
We made chili crisp with tempeh that is a party of texture and flavors!
Ingredients
- 1 (8 oz) package of Tootie's Tempeh
- 1/2 cup avocado oil
- 1 large shallots
- 4-5 cloves garlic
- 1/4 cup Chinese red chili flakes (or korean chili flakes or if you just have red pepper flakes cut the quantity in half)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 tsp coconut sugar (or equivalent)
- 1 1/2 tsp tamari
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Thinly dice garlic and shallots and crumble the tempeh so it's mostly just small beans.
- Pour the oil into a sauce pan then add your garlic, shallots, and tempeh. Turn up the heat to med-high and continue to stir until they start to brown. After 5 minutes add the red chili flakes, sugar, and salt.
- Keep cooking for another 10-20 minutes depending on temperature. You want it to have a nice char but not black.
- Add the tamari, toasted sesame seeds, and serve as a topping over rice (plain or with sauteed veggies). Sprinkle with scallions. Enjoy!
