Tempeh Crumble Pizza

These tempeh crumbles are so flavorful and make the perfect topping for pizza or pasta night. We used them on a delicious pizza made with store bought dough, with @pembertonfarms pomodoro sauce, and @plantaheadusa mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

  • Tempeh crumbles:
  • 1 (8oz) Traditional Tootie’s Tempeh
  • 2 TBSP maple syrup
  • 2 TBSP soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • 2 TBSP water
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried rosemary
  • ½ tsp dried sage
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 TBSP neutral oil (for cooking)
  • To serve:
  • Pizza dough
  • Vegan mozzarella cheese
  • Other toppings or veggies of choice

Instructions

  1. Crumble tempeh using hands or a food processor. Add all other ingredients besides the cooking oil and stir well to combine.
  2. Let sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the tempeh to marinate.
  3. Preheat a stainless steel or cast iron skillet and add 2 TBSP of neutral oil. Add in the marinated tempeh crumbles and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until browned. Do not over cook as the tempeh will continue to darken on the pizza while in the oven.
  4. We used it as a topping for pizza but can also be used as a topping for pasta dishes or salads!
